The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC), the largest youth training program in the U.S. with over 500,000 students across all five service branches, partners with high schools to provide opportunities for service to school, community, and nation. Cadets actively participate in community projects like Red Cross and food bank drives, recycling efforts, and programs supporting the elderly and children, demonstrating higher engagement in service through these meaningful activities.

JROTC offers a range of activities and benefits, including:

• Adventure and challenge through hiking, camping, swimming, and outdoor training
• STEM and STEAM-related classes and activities at some military schools
• Access to maker spaces, student enrichment centers, aviation/drone programs, and cyber programs at certain academies for grades 7–12
• Social development via summer camps and military balls that teach etiquette
• Extracurricular options such as JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB), Drill Team, Cyber Patriots, Color Guard, and Rifle competitions (not offered at all schools)

Participation in JROTC provides valuable opportunities for college funding, making cadets eligible for full-ride ROTC scholarships and paid positions at the five military service academies. This makes JROTC an excellent pathway to help pay for college.
